OVERVIEW

Abbey Fitness is a custom full-stack fitness website created to modernize the brand’s online presence while giving the business more control over its website content. The public-facing website was developed from scratch using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with a focus on responsive design, clear content hierarchy and a straightforward user journey for prospective gym members. Alongside the frontend, I developed a custom Laravel-based CMS and admin dashboard connected to MySQL, allowing website content to be managed without editing the source code. The project demonstrates both frontend development and backend application development without relying on WordPress, Webflow or a visual page builder.

01 / CHALLENGE

Making the complex immediately understandable.

The project needed more than a visual website redesign. The public website had to feel modern, clear and easy to use across desktop, tablet and mobile devices, while the business also needed a practical way to manage website content after development. A fully static implementation would require code changes whenever content needed updating, so the project required a custom content management solution alongside the frontend. The challenge was to combine a custom-coded user experience with an administration system that made ongoing content management simpler.

02 / SOLUTION

A clear system with room to grow.

I developed a custom full-stack solution consisting of a responsive public website and a dedicated Laravel admin CMS. The frontend was structured around clear navigation, strong visual hierarchy and straightforward calls to action so visitors can quickly understand the fitness business and find the information they need. Behind the website, I created an admin dashboard that allows editable website content to be managed through a dedicated interface. Laravel handles the backend application logic, while MySQL stores and manages the website data. This approach provides the flexibility of custom development while still giving the business the content-management capabilities normally expected from a CMS.

03 / DEVELOPMENT

Built for reliability and daily use.

The frontend was developed from scratch using semantic HTML5, custom CSS3 and JavaScript. I created the responsive layouts, navigation, reusable interface patterns, visual styling and interactive frontend behaviour without relying on a page builder or frontend framework. For the backend, I used PHP and Laravel to develop the custom administration system and CMS functionality. MySQL was used for persistent website data, allowing content managed from the admin dashboard to be stored and displayed dynamically on the public-facing website. The custom CMS separates content management from the frontend code, making it easier for an administrator to update website information without working directly with HTML or application files. The full project combines custom frontend development, backend logic, database integration and administrative content management in one solution.
